Situated in a cradle shaped hanging valley, it is admired for its prettiest campsite at the bank of ‘supin’ river. Admired as one of the best places to visit in uttarakhand, the moderate hike is a trekkers delight for faster accessibility to the rich endemic mix of flora and fauna. Har ki Dun trek is a part of Govind wildlife sanctuary and thus, encompassing the endangered wildlife. Hikers always have the opportunity to look out for fishing cat, musk deer, serow, himlayan tahr and sambar while it is overwhelming for the bird watchers to have the sight of monal, snow pigeon, green pigeon.

Mythologically, Har ki Dun is ‘valley of Gods’ from where Pandavas post Mahabharat ascended to the heaven via Swargarohini. It is an easy to moderate trek nestled up in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand and is located at an altitude of 3566m.

Har ki dun trek is draped in snow from November to April which makes it one of the best winter trek in India. It is also the best time to visit Har ki Doon trek. The local culture is a rich cultural heritage of the mountain people. The spellbound trail takes you to some of the unspoken and hidden villages of uttarakhand. The trek starts from Taluka village and passes through Gangaad, Osla and Seema. Intermingling with locals is always a wonderful experience and a lifetime memory.

Dry period offers clear weather, predictability and lush green landscape. The snow capped mountain exhibits the majestic view throughout the trek. it is swargarohini peak which your eyes will behold. Temperature is conducive to hassle free hiking. It stays somewhere between 5 to 15 degree Celsius. Along the har ki dun trek there is ample water availability.

Almost no rainfall and good temperature is favorable for the trekkers who want to hike conveniently without weather complexities. Nature is abundant everywhere. Sublime water streams flows soft. No need to be anxious about drinking water availability.

Note:

  1. We can also provide you transport from nearest airport/rail head/ city at a cost ranging from 4000rs to 6000rs. Depending upon the distance to base camp, the price is applicable for 8 persons. If you wish to negotiate yourself, we can also provide you the contacts of cab service providers.
  2. Offloading charges are 300/bag for one day on informing 7 days before the commencement of the trek, thereafter, 350/ bag for one day.
  3. In case of illness/ sickness/ injury, the trekker will be escorted back to base camp by the support staff.

Day 1 - Arrival at Sankri (197km drive from Dehradun).

A long drive of approx 7-8 hours from Dehradun to Sankri village along the ‘Tons’ river is an enthralling experience for its spectacular landscape throughout the way. Though Tons is a tributary of Yamuna River but it has double the volume of Yamuna. On the way, Purola, Mori and Naitwar are popular towns. You can have your lunch at any of these places. After purola, the meandering of roads through the thick woods is so photogenic that you cannot resist a click.

The arrival at Sankri would make your evening memorable. Breathtaking view of swargarohini start making its first appearance. Sankri is the basecamp for Kedarkantha, Bali pass and Borasu pass treks.

Your bags will be taken down to homestays where you will be staying the first night. Dinner will be ready for you by 20:00 hrs.

Day 2 - Sankri - Taluka (12km drive) - Puani Gharaat (13km trek).

Try to wake up early because before the trek starts, we need to cover the motorable distance of 12km upto Taluka village. Meanwhile, you are entering into the dense forests of Govind wildlife sanctuary. The rich vegetation and scenic views encourage you for the trekking thereafter.

Small quaint villages of the Har ki Dun valley give you the glimpse of the trek. After Taluka, you start your Har ki Dun trek to Puani Gharaat which is the first campsite at a distance of 13km .The trail from Taluka is moderate upto 4km while there is slight ascent till the village 'Gangaad' thereafter. The trek moves along the river 'Supin'originating from Swargarohini. Rhododendrons throughout the path adorns the trek. Water sources are frequently available.

Gangad is a beautiful village enroute, one can take a halt there to experience the Pahadi culture smoothly blended with nature. You can have your packed lunch here. After few ascents, you will be at our Campsite 'Puani Gharaat'. Put your bags inside the tents, change your clothes and take a dip into the Supin river if weather allows.

Day 3 - Puani Gharaat - kalkatiya Dhar (8km trek).

After breakfast, you leave the Campsite by 09:00 to 10:00hrs as the trek today is a little easier. There is a bridge which connects village Osla and Seema. After crossing the bridge there is a slight 20 minute ascent and then the path is straight. Hiking on the edge of the mountains is the most thrilling experience. Arguably, not for the fainthearted.

After a while, you get the fascinating view of swargarohini peaks, this indicates proximity to Har ki Dun. ‘kalkatiya Dhar’ is the place where you will be camping today. From the ridge kalkatiya Dhar, the Confluence of rivers Tamsa and Supin originating from Har ki Doon and swargarohini peak respectively can be seen into the gorge. Camping with the view of half swargarohini is just the landscape you crave for. As you are familiar with the Campsite ambience now, so we can enjoy more by playing games over here. Bonfire would be a delight to the evening mood. Evening snacks and dinner will be at your service soon.

Day 4 - Kalkatiya Dhar - Har ki Dun (6km trek).

Today’s excitement for trekking marks the purpose of Har ki Dun trek. Another reason to rejoice is the trek length with just 6 km Hike and you are almost at the heart of Har ki Dun valley. The gigantic view of Har ki Doon, swargarohini and Hatha peaks of central Himalayas show you how beautiful the nature can be at its best.

After having the packed lunch while on trek, warm soup is waiting for you at the Campsite. Today you are at Har ki Dun, explore the place as much as you can. To the right side of the valley you can get the glimpse of ‘Jaundhar glacier’. Don't worry about the left side because you can explore it tomorrow. The Har ki Dun Campsite is a Paradise for trekkers. The ambience of Har ki Dun Campsite is quite supernatural. It is popular among trekkers as one of the best winter Trek in the Garhwal Himalayas.

Day 5 - Har ki Dun - Maninda Tal (optional 3km trek) - Puani Gharaat (14km trek).

Early morning tea and the breakfast will silent the hunger pangs. The river stream by the side is ‘Tamsa’. Trek on the Left side of Har ki Dun lead you to the beautiful Lake, ‘ManindaTal’. Only after a 3 km Hike, the beautiful Maninda Tal is in front of you.

By the time we are enjoying at Maninda Tal, our Campsite will be shifted to Puani Gharaat. After having lunch and taking the last view of Har ki Dun, we will start trekking back.

There is a little more to be explored on this trek and that is village ‘Osla’. It is famous for its rich culture and it’s beautiful location in the Sankri range. Villagers are friendly enough to talk to you. The artwork with the woods in the houses is at its best, they have their temple of ‘Someshwar Devta’. Believe me it's not like the one you always go in cities.

Dinner will be ready before you reach Puani Gharaat. This day can be tiring so you can utilise your time to interact with porters, helpers and guide to share some life experiences.

Note: Har ki dun to Maninda tal is optional for the trekkers due to the total planned distance. Interested trekkers can continue hike to Maninda Tal and return back with the trek guide to Puani Gharaat where our tents will be pitched for tonight.

Day 6 - Puani Gharaat - Taluka (13km trek) - Sankri (12km drive).

Wake up early, freshen up and eat healthy for the last day of the trek. By 9 in the morning we should leave the Puani Gharaat campsite as we need to reach Taluka village in time to get the vehicle till Sankri. Now you are familiar with the place so you can relax and eat well for the descent. you will be recalling the efforts made in hiking up while going down and believe us this is a proud moment. Sooner you realise you have climbed a lot. You can have your packed lunch at any location of your choice.

After reaching Taluka, we get the vehicle which will drop us till Sankri. You reach Sankri before 17:00 hrs. Now Sankri's beautiful Homestay is waiting for you. As it’s the last time we are together so we will arrange live folk music session for you and the regional cuisine will be at your service. Bonfire is an obvious add on for the last night. Next morning you will be given healthy breakfast. Har ki dun trek is over now, you can leave us with a promise of coming back.

Using Taxi :

From any of the stop as per request, we can arrange a pick and drop from Dehradun/Haridwar to basecamp. Cost will be shared by the travellers on equal basis. The fare is approximately 4500 rs. for sumo/bolero/max one way which can accommodate upto 8 people. While a Tempo traveler is a better choice for upto 14 people at cost of approximately 8000 rs. from Dehradun and 10000 rs. approximately from Haridwar. It is not the part of trek fee and to be paid directly to the taxi operator. We can also forward you the contacts of operators to negotiate yourself.

Note :

There may be surge in above mentioned prices at the time of Char Dham Yatra season.

Using public transport :

From the Mussoorie bus stand on Gandhi road near railway station of Dehradun, you can take Uttarakhand transport buses to Sankri. Roughly 200 kms journey will take 7-8 hrs. Buses are available as early at 5:30 AM. It is low on pocket at 300 rs per person.

How to reach Dehradun :

For the treks in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli district, Dehardun/ Haridwar is closest city for road, rail and air connectivity. It includes Kedarknatha, Har ki Dun, Dayara Bugyal, Dodital, Tapovan, Kedartal, Panwali Kantha, Tungnath and Valley of Flowers trek. Public transport and taxis are available easily from here.
