Darma Valley sits in the far eastern part of Pithoragarh district, tucked right up against the Indo-Tibet border. It’s home to the Shauka (also called Rung) community, and it leads straight up to the base of the Panchachuli glacier.

Panchachuli Base Camp (~3,960 m)
Also called Zero Point locally. This is where the trek ends, right under the five Panchachuli peaks, close enough that you can hear ice shifting on a still morning.
Dugtu & Dantu Villages
The last two villages with a proper road. Stone houses, potato and buckwheat fields, and views of the peaks that most photos genuinely don't do justice.
The Pandava Connection
Locals still tell the story of the five peaks being the five stoves used for one last meal before the Pandavas began their final climb. You'll hear a few versions of it along the way.
A Valley That's Still Lived In
This isn't an abandoned trail. People actually farm, trade, and raise families here, so a lot of what you see is real daily life, not something staged for tourists.

Best Time To Visit Darma Valley & Panchachuli Base Camp
The best months are May–June and September–October, with temperatures around 8°C–22°C in the valley and as low as -2°C to 8°C at Base Camp/Zero Point. Nights can be close to 0°C, even in June. Road conditions are checked daily, and any batch changes are communicated in advance.The road to Dugtu and Dantu is currently open. Darma Valley usually closes from late November to March due to snow beyond Sobla, while July–August is generally avoided because of monsoon landslide risks.

Pithoragarh to Dugtu/Dantu via Dharchula
You'll be picked up early from Pithoragarh and driven toward Dharchula, where we get your Inner Line Permit sorted, it usually doesn't take long. From there, the road follows the Dhauliganga through Sobla, Sela, and Baling before ending at Dugtu or Dantu, whichever your batch is staying at. Rest of the evening is free to just take in the view.
Panchachuli Base Camp Walk & Drop to Pithoragarh
An early breakfast, then the walk up to Panchachuli Base Camp. It's around 5 km one way on a gentle-to-moderate trail, nothing technical, just take your time. After some time at Zero Point, you'll head back down and be driven straight back to Pithoragarh, where the trip wraps up.

Food, Stay & Daily Comfort
Stay
Homestays and small guesthouses at Dharchula and at Dugtu/Dantu. Basic, warm, and run by local families.
Food
Simple home-cooked vegetarian meals, mostly what's grown locally. Nothing fancy, but it's warm and it works.
Bathrooms
Shared facilities in the villages. Standard for this part of Kumaon, and we make sure the stays we use keep them clean.
Electricity
Generally available in Dharchula, more limited once you're at Dugtu or Dantu. Charge devices whenever you can.
Mobile Network
Works fine up to Dharchula, patchy after that, and mostly gone near the higher villages and Base Camp.

Darma Valley is a remote border valley in Pithoragarh district, known for its Shauka villages and for leading straight up to the base of the Panchachuli peaks. It's one of the quieter alternatives to the more crowded Kumaon trails.
Roughly 12°C to 22°C in May-June, dropping to single digits by September-October, and going close to freezing at Base Camp even in the warmer months, especially early morning. Winters shut the road down completely from around late November to March.
The core part, Dharchula to Dugtu/Dantu to Base Camp and back, fits into 1-2 days. Total trip length depends on your pickup point: 1N/2D from Pithoragarh, 2N/3D from Kathgodam/Haldwani or Delhi, since those add travel days on either end.
Yes, largely. Most of the distance is covered by road, and the walking portion to Base Camp is around 5 km one way on a gentle-to-moderate trail. It's a reasonable first high-altitude trip for someone who's reasonably fit.
Yes, an Inner Line Permit is mandatory since the valley runs close to the border. We handle this for you at Dharchula as part of every Darma Valley tour package, it's usually a same-day process.
May-June and September-October give the clearest views of the Panchachuli peaks. July-August is monsoon season and carries landslide risk, so batches are usually paused then, and the road closes altogether through winter.
Network holds up fine till Dharchula, then gets patchy, and mostly disappears once you're near Dugtu, Dantu, or the Base Camp trail. Worth letting people back home know in advance.
Our Darma Valley trek cost starts from ₹15,000 per person from Pithoragarh, ₹21,999 from Kathgodam/Haldwani, and ₹26,000 from Delhi, and it already covers the Panchachuli Base Camp walk since both are part of one continuous route. Final pricing can shift a bit with group size and travel dates.

Cancellations made 30 days before the trek start date will receive a 90% refund. Cancellations between 15-30 days will receive a 50% refund. No refunds are provided for cancellations within 15 days of the departure.
Your booking is confirmed only after the receipt of the initial booking amount. A confirmation voucher will be sent to your registered email within 24 hours of payment verification.
A 25% advance payment is required to secure your slot. The remaining balance must be cleared at least 15 days prior to the trek departure date. We accept all major credit cards, UPI, and bank transfers.
Rescheduling requests are accepted up to 20 days before the trek start date, subject to availability and a nominal processing fee. Rescheduling within 20 days is treated as a cancellation.
